Water is simple, yet precious, necessary, and essential. It is at the center of life and literally part of who we are: more than half of the human body is water.
If we are made of water and depend on it for life, why do we sometimes forget to drink it?
This reflection is about more than hydration. It is about changing a habit through a powerful virtue: simplicity.
Water reminds us to return to the basics, not to comfort, but to what is essential. Through the RACE to Wellness approach, simplicity can help us recognize ourselves, understand what prevents us from changing, create one practical action, and commit to repeating it.
What you will explore in this episode
- Why “Am I thirsty?” is the essential question.
- What may prevent you from responding to your body’s signals.
- How to combine a focus break with drinking water.
- How the Pomodoro Technique can support that routine.
- How compound interest applies to small wellness habits.
- Why choosing one tip for seven days can help turn intention into action.
Recognize: listen to the essential
Science has not determined one exact amount of water that every person requires because individual needs vary. In the absence of a universal answer, pause and ask yourself the most relevant question:
Am I thirsty?
Asking whether you are thirsty is a simple first step toward recognizing what your body needs and caring for your wellness.
Assess: understand what prevents you
Why am I not drinking water?
Could it be that I want to excel at work so much that I ignore my body’s signals?
Do I keep pushing myself and taking my limits further and further?
Do I feel that I am “wasting time” by going to the bathroom because I am too busy?
Why do I feel too busy to take care of myself?
Why do I not allow myself to pause so my body can eliminate what it no longer needs?
Simplicity also means recognizing and understanding yourself. These questions reveal the conditions that can make a basic act of care feel difficult.
Create: choose one simple action
You already know that water is vital. But has that knowledge changed your habit? Have you tried to drink more water and still could not make it happen?
Now it is time to create your plan by applying the virtue of simplicity.
Take your little break and drink water at the same time. Two habits in one action: the benefits of compound interest applied to your wellness.
By combining hydration with your focus break, you make the action easier to remember and repeat. To discover more tips, including how to use the Pomodoro Technique to combine focused work, short breaks, and hydration, watch the video below.
Simplicity means recognizing yourself, understanding yourself, and simplifying your hydration. Forcing yourself while ignoring what your body needs will not help you accomplish more.
No matter how fast you run, the sun rises at the same time.
Water does not always have to taste like dessert to be deeply beneficial. You are a simple human being who, without simple water, dries out and cracks.
Empower: stay with your decision
Choose one tip and repeat it every day for one week. Stay committed to that single decision and observe the results.
Then connect the action to your motivation: Why are you going to drink more water?
Write your reason on a Post-it and place it somewhere visible, or use it on your phone screen as a daily reminder.
Changing a habit does not always begin by doing more. It can begin by returning to what is essential, choosing one simple action, and repeating it with motivation.
Return to simplicity
Our Creator chose water to be a source of life. Water is part of life’s continuous cycle: the water we drink today has been circulating through our planet for an unimaginably long time.
Remember, from a place of simplicity and humility, that you are a human being made of water, and you need it to function.
Are you ready to be simple, to be human?
Are you ready to stop and take a sip for a better future?
To change a habit, you need to repeat it, maintain your motivation, and work on the preconditions that prevent you from changing the behavior.
Real change does not always begin with a complicated plan. Sometimes it begins by returning to what is essential, choosing one simple action, and repeating it with intention.
This week, pause and ask yourself: Am I thirsty? Choose one hydration tip, stay with it for seven days, and observe what changes.
Continue your RACE to Wellness and keep moving forward on your Boosting My Way journey.
